Accessing your sensuality-Living a sensual life on a daily basis
I know a lot of women who have a difficult time feeling comfortable in their own skin. I believe that one of the number one reasons women don’t feel comfortable with who they are or how they look is our obsession with comparison, comparing ourselves to celebrities, influencers, fellow women etc. When we stop comparing ourselves, we free ourselves from expectations and fixation and can finally discover and appreciate our true unique beauty.
I believe that finding our own sensuality within ourselves is about exactly this - to stop looking outward and going inward, reclaiming our true feminine power within ourselves and connecting ourselves with our senses.
Sensuality is a holistic experience. It’s about being present, connecting with our surroundings, senses and with our inner selves. We should all learn to explore our levels of sensuality, for a sensual woman is one who is fully in touch with who she is and knows her power.
Sensuality doesn’t necessarily equate to sexuality. Sensuality can sometimes be sexual, but it doesn’t have to be. Sensual living is a way of experiencing the world.
Being a sensual woman means living life to the the fullest by being in touch with all of our senses-Sight, sound, smell and touch.
Sensuality can infuse your whole life and make you feel more joy on a daily basis. It includes things like the excitement and sense of physical well-being that comes from talking a walk in the forest on a beautiful crisp morning, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the wind gently caress your face.
So if you wish to live a more sensual life and access your own sensuality, here are some ideas on how to do so.
1. See
Try to find things of beauty which give you joy to look at wherever you are. Now you might think that there isn’t much visual beauty you come across in your everyday life, but believe me there is beauty everywhere if you just learn to see it. Maybe there is a beautiful building you come across on your way to work, a pretty flower on the side of the road, a beautiful evening sky- trust me there is beauty everywhere if you focus on noticing it. Furthermore, if you spend consistent time in one place, such as your house or your office , you can create specific displays that give you pleasure when you look at them - like a painting on your wall, a beautiful picture on your work desk or arranging your furniture in an aesthetically pleasing way. Try to find at least five things a day which give you joy when you look at them.
2.Hear
Find out what kinds of sounds bring you pleasure when you hear them. Do you enjoy the sound of the rain? The sound of waves crashing into the shore or the sounds of crickets on a lush summer evening? Even if you aren’t able to access some of the sounds you really enjoy hearing on a daily basis you can easily find countless soundscapes such as “ ocean soundtracks” or “forest scapes” on iTunes or Spotify download and enjoy them. I recommend taking 5 minutes a day to put on a sound you really enjoy, sit in a comfortable place, close your eyes and just listen. There is immense power in just listening and doing nothing else. Obviously you can do the same if you are in a place where you can naturally hear “the sound of the ocean” or you can put on a piece of music you really enjoy and do the same. The point is in just listening and not doing anything else for 5 minutes. Doing so will awaken your senses and bring you into the present.
3.Touch
Dress in something that feels good on your skin like a silky kimono or a soft sweater. Close your eyes for a minute and internalise what the fabric feels like on your skin.
Touch different textures in your surroundings and consciously notice what sensations they produce. Notice what happens when you wrap your hands around a glass of ice water or a warm tea cup.
Take off your shoes and walk bare feet on the soft grass in your garden or a park. Close your eyes for a minute and pay attention to what the ground feels like on your bare feet.
4.Smell
Inhale the scent of your freshly made cup of tea before you take a sip, or your dinner before you take a bite. Take a moment and let the smell register, notice how your body reacts, then start eating or drinking.
Put on a bit of your a favourite perfume or essential oils. Close your eyes and witness just the smell of it lingering in the air for a minute before you get on with your day.
5.Taste
Make yourself a meal you really enjoy. When you take the first bite of your food, taste it deliberately. Notice where in your body the taste registers, along with any emotions you might feel. Eating is a deeply sensual and emotional experience, and the more you are smelling, tasting and being present while you eat, the better your relationship with your food and your body will be.
Make yourself a delicious desert or a snack you enjoy. Then switch off all the lights and eat it in the dark or blindfold yourself. This experience of eating without sight will really heighten your sense of taste in a way you probably haven’t experienced before.
I hope you have enjoyed some of these tips on how to connect with your sensuality and live a more sensual life. Living sensually is one of my daily quests and I truly believe that finding more sensuality in your everyday life will help you experience more joy and feel more connected with yourself.
Happy Sensual Living days xx
