4 fun ideas to get moving outside all year round

4 fun ideas to get moving outside all year round

Regardless of the time of year getting some fresh and daily outdoor activity is essential if you want to feel your best.

Fresh air isn’t only good for your overall physical health but also affects your mental state. The more fresh air you get the more oxygen you will breathe in which increases the amount of serotonin(the happiness hormone) in your brain consequently making you feel happier.

On a physical level fresh air strengthens your immune system, cleanses your lungs, makes you feel more energised and speeds up your digestion.

With all these amazing health benefits there is no doubt we should get outdoors and get moving!

If you are bored of taking a walk outside or going for a run here are some fun ideas for getting your daily outdoor exercise.

  1. Get a Jump rope

Some may think that jump ropes should stay in their childhood but jump roping is a great way to get some movement outside even for adults. Jump ropes are cheap and easy to bring to the park or into the great outdoors. For those of you who are wanting to excel at jump roping there are tons of jump roping tutorials and jump rope workouts on youtube these days. It is possible to jump rope any time of the year-If it’s cold just put on some extra layers and start jumping!

  2. Roller skating

Roller skating is a super fun way to get some outdoor movement. It may take you a few moments until you find your balance but once you start getting the hang of it you’ll be skating all over town in no time. I personally have a pair of second hand roller skates which I love. I would recommend buying them second hand if you are looking to not spend a lot of money. Used skates are easy to find in second hand shops and online platforms such as ebay. It’s safe to say that Roller skating is possible any time of the year except on snowy or rainy days, so get skating!

  3. Dance it out

So I know dancing outdoors by yourself may seem a bit intimidating and definitely isn’t for everyone. I find that having a dance prop such as veil fans (see picture) or hula hoops can make dancing solo outdoors really fun. If you haven’t tried either of these I recommend getting yourself some veil fans or hoops and start learning. Now, I generally love dancing and am into dance but I believe that any one at any level could enjoy learning to dance with these props. Both veil fans and various types of hoops can easily be ordered online. I personally got my veil fans on Etsy because I enjoy supporting smaller businesses but they are readily available on Amazon or even ebay. I am a firm believer that dancing outdoors is possible in any weather any time of the year (These veil fan dance pictures are taken in Norway in February) just dress warm enough and start dancing!

  4. Outdoor Yoga

Outdoor Yoga is one of my favourite things- Nothing like getting onto the mat in the fresh air, preferably on a beach in the sunshine but I’ve also had some great winter outdoor yoga sessions. Yoga mats are light and you can literally bring them anywhere- a park, a beach, a forest, a mountain…the possibilities are endless. If you are a beginner Yogini and prefer taking a class than attempting some moves on your own, bring your phone with you and do one of the many readily available online yoga sessions in the great outdoors. There are tons of great free yoga classes on youtube these days. One of my favourite channels is called Boho Beautiful Yoga- Highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for some great free yoga sessions. So grab your mat and get outside!

So I hope this has given you some inspiration for getting outside, breathing in that sweet fresh air and start moving!

And remember doing some outdoor activity is better than none, even if it’s just 20 minutes, your body will thank you for it and I promise it will make you feel great.
